Dewsbury Society for the Blind

Established in 1918, the Society for the Blind of Dewsbury, Batley and District is the leading organisation supporting people living with sight loss in North Kirklees.

The Society offers services and advice to blind (severely sight impaired) and partially sighted (sight impaired) people of all ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Our weekly activities, holidays, trips and events reduce the isolation many people can feel living with sight loss. Making new friends, learning new skills and feeling more confident are just some of the benefits of the Society.

Rehabilitation workers will help blind and partially sighted feel confident with their sight loss by providing equipment to aid daily living skills. By offering advice and information, they help to make people feel more independent and able to cope with their eye condition.

Sindy's Testimonial

"The chance to come to the centre gets me out of the house and meeting friends. Having the Society minibus picking me up means I can be independent and not have to rely on someone for a lift. Since I came here I have made and created things I never even knew I could. It's a laugh and something I really enjoy"
