Befriending Service

Better Future for the Blind have been running a befriending service for the visually impaired in South Kirklees for a year now and this has proved to be very successful.

Our Befriending Service aims to reach people with a visual impairment who may be lonely or living in isolated circumstances.

We believe that social interaction is a vital part of our daily lives as lack of contact can quickly lead to loneliness, a feeling of isolation and depression and can have a serious affect on our quality of life. A weekly visit from a “friend” can often become the highlight of the week and soon lift our spirits.

Our Volunteers visit people in their own homes, for an hour or so once a week or fortnight, to chat, reminisce and to simply enjoy a cup of tea together in a relaxed environment.

Our aims are to provide companionship and enjoyment to both the Befriender and the person with a visual impairment being visited.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for our “Befriending Service” we would love to hear from you:
